NFL: BENGALS: Watson re-signs

The Bengals backup quarterback search looks to be in neutral for now with Jamie Martin scheduled to visit Seattle and the Joey Harrington deal Xed out by the extension for right guard Bobbie Williams. The Bengals did announce Monday that they’ve reached a one-year deal for running back Kenny Watson.
Watson, 28, returned a kickoff in the opener in Cleveland last year when he suffered a season-ending torn bicep. He had an excellent 2004 when he finished fourth in special teams tackles and had a 6.2-yard average on 26 carries and caught 25 balls for 171 yards.
Watson is valued by the Bengals because of his versatility as a third-down back and special teams work. It's believed he signed for $585,000 with a $40,000 bonus in a deal that counts $465,000 against the salary cap.
Tom Mills, the agent for Martin, said Monday that the main obstacle in a deal with the Bengals is money. But he said in his talks with Troy Blackburn, the club's director of business development, the team has made it clear that they want to keep Martin's salary down so they can have enough room to extend more of their offensive linemen.
"I can understand that from their perspective," Mills said.
Mills said Martin is set to visit Seattle, but he's had no talks with the Saints and no visit set up with the Dolphins. At the moment, the Bengals seem set on pursuing their own players instead of Martin, Harrington and Pro Bowl linebacker LaVar Arrington. notas_de_prensa_archivo
