NFL: CHARGERS: Admirals end Fire's perfect start
/noticias.info/ By Casey Pearce, Chargers.com
Berlin Thunder fullback Jonathan Evans has been part of some impressive rushing performances.
Running back Larry Croom’s one-yard touchdown run helped Amsterdam ruin the Rhein Fire’s perfect record and pull the Admirals into a tie for first place in NFL Europe in Week 5 action this weekend.
Croom rushed for 23 yards on eight carries and added three receptions for an additional 23 yards as Amsterdam squeaked out a 35-31 win Saturday. Safety Mitch Meeuwsen contributed one tackle in the loss, and safety Richard Yancy, who spent the 2005 season on the Chargers’ practice squad, tallied two stops. Admirals linebacker Phil Archer missed this week’s action after being placed on injured reserve. Unlike the NFL, players can come off IR and resume action during the NFL Europe season.
Running back Derek Farmer turned in his best performance of the 2006 season as he rushed for 54 yards and a touchdown on 12 carries to help the Berlin Thunder earn a 24-13 victory over the Cologne Centurions. Fullback Jonathan Evans caught three passes for seven yards and helped Berlin rush for 136 yards as a team on the day. Centurions linebacker Jonathan Pollard added a tackle in the loss.
Quarterback Craig Ochs, who spent training camp with the Chargers last summer, completed 9-of-14 passes for 162 yards and a touchdown as his Frankfurt Galaxy improved to 3-2 on the year with a 17-13 win over the Hamburg Sea Devils. Offensive tackle Ben Johnson saw action as a reserve and helped the Sea Devils rush for 74 yards on the day. notas_de_prensa_archivo
