PGA: Scott shrugs off Faldo criticism
/noticias.info/ Adam Scott has shrugged off criticism that he doesn't have everything it takes to be a true champion.
Nick Faldo, a six-time major champion, was concerned that Scott seemed too stoic, too accepting of his fate after three-putting from inside five-feet at the 14th hole, and double-bogeying the 16th to throw the Barclays Classic title away.
"That's an interesting comment coming from Nick. He was a stoic player," the world number six said while preparing for the US Open. "I didn't have anything to be fired up about at the time, but I was trying my guts out, I've got to say. I don't find any point wasting any energy on bad shots. That's not my style."
He added: "If I get too pumped up and start throwing fist pumps and throwing clubs, my adrenaline level gets too high, and I don't like that feeling at all. I've always played like that. I just do what comes naturally. I don't try to put on a show and I don't try to be stoic."
Scott argues that the fact he played the final two holes in three-under-par is ample proof that his even-keeled approach works, but others would argue that the tournament was lost by then and that his strong finish was too little, too late to really matter.
"At that point I'm in a bad situation," Scott said of his stumble at 16. "I don't want to start beating myself up. I managed to hold it together and finish birdie-eagle. Even though I'm out there to win, I'd rather finish second than ninth." notas_de_prensa_archivo
