PGA TOUR: Diary: Weir makes preparations for U.S. Open
/noticias.info/ By Mike Weir
The year's second major is here and with it, one long grueling test of golf.
The U.S. Open is always one of the most difficult events we play all year. The USGA likes to set up a tough course and stick to their old adage of trying to identify the best golfer.
I'm looking forward to it as I've played well in this tournament over the years, with two finishes in the top five and two more top-20 finishes since 2000.
This year at Winged Foot, just like most U.S. Opens, you have to be a little more precise. The margin for error is a lot less out here. The rough is super deep and the course just tests all aspects of your game.
You have to drive it well to some very narrow landing areas and then it's a second shot golf course because the greens are so tough. Obviously keeping the shot below the hole is key here because just about every green slopes hard from back to front.
Even when you're on the greens, they're really difficult to putt so you just have to spend a little more time on all aspects of your game as you get ready.
Coming into this week, I feel good. I feel I'm playing solid and so far this year, my results have been bearing that out. I know I just have to stay patient -- especially this week. I've been working really hard so it's bound to click here soon.
