PGA: Garcia back in Britain
/noticias.info/ Other than the Open championship and the Ryder Cup, Europe's top golfer Sergio Garcia has not played a tournament in Britain since 2002 but that will change when he plays the Scottish Open.
Having fallen to ninth in the Ryder Cup table - he led it after winning the opening event last September - the Spaniard made a late decision to add this week's Barclays Scottish Open to his schedule.
"I can play as much as I want, but it's just how much it costs me," said the 26-year-old Spaniard. "It's something I've stopped bothering about. I let my lawyers and accountants take care of that, but it's a bit of a shame."
He added: "It keeps not only myself, but a lot of guys from playing more often. Unfortunately that's the way it is and I can't do much about it."
Two months ago Andre Agassi lost a legal battle to avoid paying UK income tax on endorsement deals, Law Lords ruling that foreign entertainers touring Britain must pay a percentage of money earned from such deals.
Garcia is ninth in the world, but has not had a top-10 finish since March and has been bothered by back trouble lately.
"Hitting it in the rough at Winged Foot didn't help (he had two 78s at the US Open and missed the cut by seven), but it's fine," he said.
"I want to make a bit of an extra effort to get my place in the Ryder Cup team. I just need a couple of good weeks." notas_de_prensa_archivo
