Siemens modernizes communication network for Brazilian State of Pernambuco
/noticias.info/ As a member of a consortium, Siemens Communications has been commissioned by the Government of the Brazilian State of Pernambuco to build a network to handle voice, data and image traffic. The communication network will link the State bodies in 184 cities and on the archipelago of Fernando de Noronha. Siemens is the responsible for the management and operation of the entire telecommunications network. The contract with the consortium is worth a total of 30 million euros.
Under the outsourcing contract, Siemens will provide, install and maintain more than 300 HiPath communication platforms and the network for videoconferences. The client will thus be provided with a state-of-the-art telecommunications infrastructure without the need to invest in technological assets.
The implementation of the IP network is one of the most important government projects for introducing e-government, which will make administrative work more efficient. It will allow all the State bodies to use new applications such as voice over IP, videoconferencing and remote access to the internal network and the internet. The network should be completely set up in 2007.
Thanks to the benefits of IP technology and the service contract signed with the consortium, the Government hopes to reduce the annual cost of information and communication by over 40 percent. The project for Pernambuco State will also include 50 local centers, where the low-income population can be introduced to modern communication technology and have free access to the internet.
HiPath is the Enterprise Convergence Architecture from Siemens. A comprehensive solution and service portfolio enables companies to further expand their existing voice and data infrastructures, safeguard their existing capital investment, and implement second generation IP (2gIP) applications. 2gIP applications optimize company processes and lead to a sustained improvement in productivity for the corporation. Thanks to the continuous further development of its products and software, Siemens Communications is an innovation leader on the path to a seamless integration of realtime communication in the IT world. According to analysts, HiPath has ensured that Siemens is the world's number one supplier of VoIP connections. With a market share of 38.6%. Siemens aims to further expand this position. Over 70% of the Fortune 500 corporations have selected a HiPath solution. Customers include BMW, DaimlerChrysler, Deutsche Bank, Ford, IBM, Kodak, SAP, BP and Volvo.
