Turning up the heat in Spain

/noticias.info/

We may have had the hottest July in England’s history but the prospect of long, dark nights is still not appealing. I’ve decided to winter in warm Seville, which will be a lot cooler than we’ve been experiencing in London but a lot warmer than our typical January. But it won’t be all sea, sun and sangria as I intend to return to the UK next spring with Spanish tripping off my tongue courtesy of CLIC IH (www.clic.es).

Renowned language school, CLIC IH (www.clic.es) based in Seville, offers a multitude of courses for students of all ages and abilities. I’ve decided to enrol for the intensive Spanish course which, as their website explains, is recommended for people who wish to combine learning Spanish with a study of the culture. There are twenty-four classes a week either in the morning or the afternoon with students completing a level every 4 weeks. Courses are from 2 weeks to an academic year and I have a choice of either morning or afternoon classes. As afternoons are for siestas, I’ve chosen the morning for me!

I’m considering joining the intensive mini-group Spanish course as the average age of the students is closer to my own. Even at my time of life I enjoy partying, but older people’s motivation to learn is that bit stronger. After all, time is getting short! Other obvious benefits are that I shall have more direct contact with the teacher and therefore more personal attention.

If you’re not doing anything special this winter, learning Spanish is a superbly productive way to spend your time. I appreciate that you have to be either a student with means, retired on a pension or, like me, a self-employed writer who can work from anywhere if you want to take advantage of the intensive course. But, even if you’re not, it’s worth visiting CLIC IH (www.clic.es) as they have a massive variety of short courses on offer.

CLIC IH seems determined to make learning a foreign language fun. The school cleverly combines paella and sangria with the very highest standards of a serious language school. It has a state-of-the-art building, located in the south of the city, in one of the best residential areas in Seville called La Palmera. The beautiful park of Maria Luisa is just 10 minutes away on foot and the city centre only 15 minutes by bus. Accommodation is either residential or as a paying guest with a local family. I have chosen the latter as I know that I shall enjoy my morning walks through Seville’s historic streets. Roll-on winter!
