Red Sox activate LHP Lenny DiNardo from 60-day disabled list; designate lefthander David Wells for assignment
/noticias.info/ The Boston Red Sox today activated lefthanded pitcher Lenny DiNardo from the 60-day disabled list.
To make room for DiNardo on the active roster, lefthanded pitcher David Wells has been designated for assignment.
Executive Vice President/General Manager Theo Epstein made the announcements.
DiNardo will be in uniform for Thursday night's game with Toronto. The lefthander has made five appearances on rehab assignment, most recently on Saturday for Triple-A Pawtucket. DiNardo started for the PawSox versus Rochester at Fenway Park, allowing two hits and no runs in three innings with two strikeouts. The lefthander threw 56 pitches (31 for strikes) and had no decision in the nightcap of the "Futures at Fenway" doubleheader.
DiNardo was placed on the disabled list on May 24 (retroactive to May 22) with neck problems. He was sent to the Rookie League Gulf Coast Red Sox on rehab assignment on August 16 and issued one unearned run in 4.2 innings in two appearances. He was assigned to Double-A Portland on August 22 and started that night versus Binghamton (2 IP, 7 H, 7 R, 7 ER, 2 BB, 2 SO).
DiNardo is 1-2 with a 7.11 ERA in seven games/five starts with Boston this season.
Wells is 2-3, 4.98 in overall eight starts with the Red Sox this season. Since returning from the disabled list on July 31, the 43-year-old lefthander is 2-2 in six starts. notas_de_prensa_archivo
