PGA: Punter bets £247,000 on USA win

Europe may be favourites to retain the Ryder Cup at the K Club, but one punter has staked almost a quarter of a million pounds on an American victory.

The William Hill customer, from Tyne & Wear, has bet £247,000 on Tom Lehman's side at 6-5 for a potential return of £543,000.

"This is a remarkable bet, the biggest we or anyone else have ever taken on a golf event, let alone the Ryder Cup," said William Hill spokesman Graham Sharpe. "The Ryder Cup is set for a record betting turnover industry-wide of around £25million - eclipsing even the Open." notas_de_prensa_archivo
