PGA TOUR: Diary: Cink enjoys day despite bad weather
/noticias.info/ Editor’s note: Stewart Cink was one of Tom Lehman's two Captain’s Picks for the U.S. Ryder Cup Team. He’ll be sharing his experiences with PGATOUR.com fans this week in a daily diary from The K Club. This is his first installment.
STRAFFAN, Ireland -- Today was a nasty day. We rearranged our schedule a little bit because of the bad weather and we just played the front nine. We kind of goofed off a little bit, too. With the exception of a few holes, we just went inside 100 yards to hit and had some little match-up games -- closest to the pin, chip-offs and stuff like that. J.J. and I were the big winners yesterday but we were the shutout team today. You know, just like it is in Atlantic City or Las Vegas, whenever you gamble and win, it usually ends up going back to the house, and it did.
Last night was fun. It’s a traditional part of the Ryder Cup where you mix with the other team and have dinner. My wife Lisa and I sat at a good table. We had Luke Donald and his fiancé and Paul McGinley and his wife from the European Team, and Zach Johnson and his wife, Kim, and our assistant captain Corey Pavin and his wife Lisa. We had a good conversation and a lot of laughs. We heard from Michael Smurfit, who’s the developer and owner of The K Club. Tom and Ian both made real short little speeches, 10 minutes long, maybe, and then we went back to our rooms. Lisa and the girls sort of had a little party when we got back. Most of the guys went to bed. We were tired. There was some singing going on later, but it was behind closed doors and mostly by the girls.
We’ll see how things look with the weather but we’re going to plan on playing nine holes tomorrow. The thing is, the weather’s not going to improve a whole lot. We’ve got to get used to playing in this. We can’t not play because it’s not perfect. Most of the guys were in the team room between 6 and 6:30 this morning to meet with Tom and figure out what the day was going to look like. We were slated to be on the tee at 7:30 so we were all up. Some guys even got their golf clothes on. But I didn’t. I got a shower and I just put on my gym clothes to go down there because I figured we weren’t playing. I could hear the wind. It was rattling the windows. You know, it was supposed to be a really bad storm but the rain never materialized. Maybe it was blowing so hard it blew right over us. notas_de_prensa_archivo
