SOUTHERN AFRICA TOUR: Sunshine Tour Pros enjoy South Cape hospitality
/noticias.info/ The coastal town of Mossel Bay is well known for its temperate climate, beautiful blend of shoreline and sunshine and sparkling white beaches. Now it also boasts as a tour stop on the Sunshine Tour’s Winter Swing.
Early in 2006, the Mossel Bay Tourism Board and Mossel Bay Golf Club approached the Sunshine Tour with a joint initiative to promote golf and tourism in the Mossel Bay area. The resulting event was South Cape Classic Pro-Am, largely sponsored by PetroSA, which saw 90 amateurs from the area tee it up alongside 30 of the top Sunshine Tour professionals on Saturday, 9 September 2006.
On the day, not even the incessant rain could drive the Sunshine Tour’s leading players and their amateur partners off the course as they navigated the challenging layout of the coastal course in a Fourball Alliance (two scores to count) format.
Professional John Bele and his team, Hendrik Sass, Pieter Bodenstein and Johan Furstenberg took the honours on a winning score of 87.
Bertu Nel, the Director of Golf at Mossel Bay Golf Club and greenkeeping staff received high praise from the pro’s who not only enjoyed the tough challenge that the South Easter brought, but was engaged by the warm hospitality extended by the amateurs and sponsors.
It is the long-term goal of all three parties that the South Cape Classic will grow to a fully fledges Sunshine Tour Winter Swing event in 2007, which will afford PetroSA and the Mossel Bay Tourism Board an unprecedented opportunity for sustained relationship-building with the Sunshine Tour and brand exposure within the golfing and tourism market. notas_de_prensa_archivo
