ASIAN TOUR: YANG TAKES EARLY CONTROL IN KOREA
/noticias.info/ Seoul, September 21: Korea's Yang Yong-eun has taken the early first round lead in the 49th Kolon-Hana Bank Korea Open after an impressive six-under-par 65 on Thursday.
The in-form Yang overcame a slow start at the par-71 Woo Jeong Hills Country Club Club before storming through his back nine with a 31, thanks to five birdies. He leads by one stroke from compatriots Lee Jung-hoon, Kwon Myung-ho and Nam Young-woo.
Filipino Gerald Rosales and big-hitting American Bubba Watson, a regular on the US PGA Tour, were amongst those lurking on four-under in the US$700,000 Asian Tour event.
Title holder Choi Gwang-soo also started his campaign strongly with a 68, a score matched by Malaysia's Danny Chia, Australian Terry Pilkadaris, and Korea's Choi Hyun and Kang Kyung-nam.
The tournament's top draw, world number six Retief Goosen of South African, is playing in the afternoon session where he has started strongly by going to five under through 12 holes.
The powerfully-built Yang has played primarily on the Japan Tour after a short stint in Asia and has won four times in the Land of the Rising Sun. He was triumphant at the Suntory Open a fortnight ago and is chasing his first Korean Open title.
Yang, 34, said: "I'm happy with my round. I've not had a chance to play much in Korea these days as I'm in Japan. Hopefully, I can maintain my form for the rest of the week." notas_de_prensa_archivo
