Manchester United : Giggs' glee at hard-fought win
Ryan Giggs knows a big result when he sees one - and Saturday's win was certainly on the large side after eight years of almost futile toil at Ewood Park.
/noticias.info/ United's only other victory at Ewood Park since 1998 came in the Carling Cup semi-final in January 2003. Otherwise, it's been a tale of four draws and three defeats for the Reds on their relatively short road into Lancashire.
"It’s a great place to get three points, because it’s really tough here," said Ryan.
"Perhaps we didn’t play as well as we have been doing lately but sometimes you’ve got to dig out results, especially at a place like this. We can’t complain at (only) one-nil."
The scorer of United's winning goal agreed with the Welshman.
"We knew it was going to be tough and we responded to that," said Louis Saha.
"The main thing is the three points, so scoring that goal was very important for the team. It’s a long road (in the title race) but this is a great achievement, a good place to win.”
Fears of another frustrating result were forgivable at half-time, given United's recent record at Blackburn and their profligacy in the first 45 minutes. But Giggs insists the Reds remained confident the victory would come.
“We felt if we kept a clean sheet , we’d get more chances," said Ryan.
"The lads defended well at the back and that always gives us the platform to go on and create chances. And if we score, it gives us a great chance of winning.
"I sneaked round the back and managed to pull it back to Louis who was in the right place." notas_de_prensa_archivo
