PALESTINE: After Two Years of His Passing Away, Palestinians Miss Yasser Arafat

/noticias.info/ GAZA, Palestine, November 11,2006 (IPC+ Agencies) --" If he was here. We do nor reach the current formidable situation" in these words resident Majdi Al Remawe expressed his missing for the late Palestinian leader who passed away two years ago, another resident at Al Birah post office added" I feel very sad, when I remember he (Arafat) was not among us… really we get orphaned after his passing away …. the majority of people become poor, unemployed and the Palestinians are looking for impresses and food coupon and people are no longer speaks about Jerusalem, settlement, apartheid wall and refugees … the situation will not be like this if Abu Amar was still alive."

More bleak darker situation, more yearning to the late President Yasser Arafat. Dalyia Zaidan , Bank clergy said " we were talking about security looseness in Arafat's tenure and about bad situations we do not aware that the coming is more worse … it's enough to say that Abu Ammar was able take over the situation at a word by him and able unify the Palestinians who were split after his death … the most conspicuous that though he was besieged inside his compound in Rammallah for more than three years he did not use it as an excuse for the deteriorating situation but instead he was working hard for the sake of the Palestinian people . he was a leader by all sense of the word."

Some views that none of the current Palestinian leaders able to fill the vacancy left by late President Arafat . Munther Dubes, internet coffee owner in Rammallah said " I believe that all the current political leaders with their diverse political affiliation are unable to fill the vacancy left by his passing away."

He added "Abu Ammar was a genius leader , no one was dare to get out the road sketched out for liberation which is stumbling severely nowadays .. we get very preoccupied with unrfest between government and presidency , Fateh and Hamas , security forces and paramilitary forces formed by interior minister recently , between strikes and protest to pay the overdue salaries for the PNA workers and dubbing those protestors as disloyal .. our just cause has gone with the direction which the wind is blowing."

Pictures of late President Arafat reoccurred in the Gaza streets on Friday, a day before a two-year anniversary for his death on Saturday, showing the Palestinians' yearning for the late leader.

Since Arafat's death in a French Hospital near Paris in Nov. 11, 2004, the Palestinians have been experienced too many changes, including electing a new leader to succeed Arafat, municipal elections, the Israeli unilateral disengagement plan, the legislative elections and a new government led by Hamas which welcomed by western air embargo.

But as time went by, the Palestinians began to be aware of what they lost with the death of Arafat, who was then given high evaluations and praises by the Palestinians from all circles.
Chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat said on Friday that " We really don't want to turn the date of pass-away of the eternal leader Yasser Arafat into an anniversary only, because Arafat should be remembered all the time."

He said that "Yasser Arafat had passed away, while massacres are committed everyday against our people. Yasser Arafat passed away, while our internal situation remains as difficult as it is, while Palestinian blood has been shed by Palestinian hands." notas_de_prensa_archivo
