PALESTINE: PM Haneyeh is Ready to Quit Office on Condition of Uplift Aid Embargo
/noticias.info/ GAZA, Palestine, November 11,2006 (IPC+ Agencies) - -The prime minister Ismael Haneyeh announced yesterday that he agreed with the President Mahmoud Abbas on the basic outline for coalition government and said that he is ready to abandon its premiership to end the Western aid embargo on the Palestinian territories.
" I quit my position for my people and not surrender and if the choice is either the sanction or Haneyeh, the choice will be uplifting the sanction," PM Haneyeh underlined.
Haneyeh said in a press conference at Palestine Mosque in Gaza after Friday congregational ceremony " talks are successful and in progress and we could agree on the basic outline for the unity government.
"Our brothers in Hamas and Fateh and the rest of factions will continue talks within the next week to form a coalition government and the relative arrangements," Haneyeh added.
The PM underscored that the timing for consultations with factions is two to three weeks, focusing on the goal of forming a new government; ending the sanction and alleviate the suffering of the Palestinian people.
Questioned about the name often reported in mass media to assume the office of prime minister Haneyeh denied that such names are true pointing out that the talks are still underway about the candidate.
Reliable Palestinian sources told Al Ayam local paper that a meeting id due top convene Tomorrow Sunday between Fateh's delegation chaired by Ahmad Qurei, member of Fateh's executive committee and former Prime minister and a delegation of Hamas on the purpose to discuss giving out of ministerial portfolio in a technocrat government and ratio of Hamas and Fateh in this new government.
The sources elaborated that it is not expected in this meeting, which will be attended by two lawmaker Zaid Abu Amro and Mustafa Al Burghouthi, to identify the name nominated form Fayeh and Hamas to take the ministerial portfolios but the agreement will be on the basic outlines.
In this regard the reliable sources told Al Ayam daily that foreign affair portfolio is left for President Mahmoud Abbas to choose , and presumably the candidate would be very close to him. Reports speculate deputy Zaid Abu Amro and finance minister might be the independent Salam Fayad. Both Abu Amro and Fayad denied their knowledge about this regard.
