Football Icon 2 - Down to the last eight

/noticias.info/ number of boys competing for the prized Chelsea contract has been reduced to eight following the latest set of eliminations.

The boys released in the latest episode of the Sky One series were central defender Jordan Street and full-back Dan Mitton.

It followed a game against Chelsea’s own youth team which the Icon side lost 4-1.

But given that the Chelsea side included several youth internationals and the teams were drawing 1-1 at half-time — David Milton scoring the goal - there was a great deal of praise for the Icon boys.

It was only in the final 30 minutes, when the Icon side began to tire, that the youth team’s greater experience and all-round fitness began to tell.

After the game, Neil Bath, manager of the Chelsea Academy who also heads the Football Icon judges, told the boys how impressed he was with their performance.

Also in the programme, there was an impromptu penalty shoot-out competition with Academy goalkeeping coach Lawrence Batty between the posts. It was won by Anthony Cook, ‘Cookie’ (pictured), who used all available methods of gamesmanship to put off his fellow penalty-takers!

At the Football Icon Mansion, the captain for the week, Tom Bird, was given the ‘captain’s privilege’ of three tickets for Chelsea’s opening game of the season versus Man City. Tom was delighted — he’s a life-long Chelsea fan!

As the prize of a professional contract grows closer, there were signs of tension between two of the boys — Stuart Gates and Cookie.

Next time on Football Icon 2, the boys that made it through will be joining the Chelsea youth team to continue their training.

The new captain in the Mansion is Jack Steele, appointed by Icon judge Eddie Newton, because of his passion and commitment.

The winner of the competition will be announced in December.

Football Icon 2 is on Sky One, 8pm Friday.

The eight boys who have made it through to Episode 7:

Moses Ademola (Southwark)

Thomas Bird (Basingstoke)

Anthony Cook (Hackney)

Stuart Gates (Southampton)

Carl Magnay (Gateshead)

David Milton (Welling, Kent)

David Palmer (South Shields)

Jack Steele (Dumfries)
