Fighting human trafficking for labour exploitation focus of OSCE conference
/noticias.info/ VIENNA, 13 November 2006 - How to best fight human trafficking for purposes of labour exploitation is the focus of a two-day high-level conference that starts Thursday in Vienna.
The agenda includes presentations of examples how human trafficking for labour exploitation is addressed across the OSCE region. The conference also focuses on implementation of international legal instruments and national legislation in prosecuting cases of trafficking for labour exploitation and in ensuring legal redress for victims.
Governmental anti-trafficking co-ordinators, judges, prosecutors, lawyers, law enforcement agents, labour inspectors and other experts will participate in the meeting. Speakers include Eva Biaudet, the OSCE Special Representative on Combating Trafficking in Human Beings and Kristiina Kangaspunta, the chief of the Anti-Human Trafficking Unit at the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime.
The meeting is expected to raise the political will to eradicate human trafficking for labour exploitation and to provide a forum for participants to exchange experiences. It also aims to increase the understanding for the need to involve numerous stakeholders in the development of responses to this type of trafficking.
All conference sessions are open to media representatives.
The conference is preceded by a Special Event on Public-Private Partnerships in Combating Trafficking in Human Beings, organized by the Belgian OSCE Chairmanship, starting at 13:00 on 16 November in the Hofburg Congress Centre's Segmentgalerie I. The conference opening session follows at 15:30 in the Neuer Saal.
A side event highlighting recent research on human trafficking for labour exploitation will start at 13:30 on 17 November in Segmentgalerie I.
