OSCE Bishkek conference to address land degradation and soil contamination
/noticias.info/ VIENNA, 14 November 2006 - Land degradation and soil contamination will be the focus of at an OSCE-organized conference in Bishkek on 16 and 17 November.
The event will bring together over 200 participants, including government officials and civil society representatives from OSCE participating States. The impact of hazardous activities, environmental security, sustainable use of land, agriculture and food security, environmentally induced migration, and integrated water management will also be on the agenda.
The Conference was organized by the incoming Spanish Chairmanship of the OSCE and the Office of the Co-ordinator of OSCE Economic and Environmental Activities, with the support of the Government of Kyrgyzstan and the OSCE Centre in Bishkek.
Media representatives are invited to attend the opening session from 9.00 to 9.30, to be followed by a news conference, on Thursday, 16 November, and the closing session from 18.00 to 18.30 on Friday, 17 November, at the Hyatt Regency, Sovetskaya str. 191, Bishkek.
Media representatives interested in attending should send their details in advance to the OSCE Centre in Bishkek.
The Bishkek Conference is the first preparatory event for next year's 15th OSCE Economic and Environmental Forum which will focus on "Key challenges to ensure environmental security and sustainable development in the OSCE area: Land degradation, soil contamination and water management". The forum will be held in two stages - on 22 and 23 January 2007 in Vienna; and from 21 to 23 May 2007 in Prague. notas_de_prensa_archivo
