ARSENAL: Wenger - How new system has affected Henry
/noticias.info/ By Richard Clarke
Arsenal’s tweak in formation has affected Thierry Henry more than anyone. Arsène Wenger has spent almost all his decade at the Club sending out a traditional 4-4-2 side. However, over the past 18 months, he has moved towards a 4-5-1 system and now it is the standard shape.
Wenger admits the switch means his captain must adapt but, he argues, the advantages are well worth it.
“The benefit of playing that way is I have a lot of technical players I can put together in the middle of the park,” said the manager ahead of the Newcastle game.
“If I put them in a 4-4-2, we would be a bit weak defensively in midfield.
“I agree physically it is a bit harder for Thierry. Also in his head, he can go completely where he wants when he plays with a second striker in a 4-4-2.
“But maybe as a target man, he thinks ‘I cannot go too deep or on the flanks because they need me more and if I move somewhere else they will have a go at me because there is nobody in the box’.
“He might feel a little bit more responsibility to stay central.
“Still on Sunday against Liverpool, I thought he had a great game in that role. It is just that it was under-rated because he did not score and was maybe a bit more isolated." notas_de_prensa_archivo
