The Reds won the return 2-0 at Anfield in December thanks to a brace from Fernando Morientes. It was the last game Liverpool played before they left for Japan and the World Club Championships.

Liverpool have won only twice in their last 10 visits to Boro in the league and have lost five in that time.

The Reds last win here came in March 2002 when John Arne Riise and Emile Heskey scored in a 2-1 win.

Liverpool's clean sheet here last season was only their second in their last 11 League visits to Teeside.

They have scored in just one of their last seven visits and not in any of the last four since that win four years ago.

Liverpool's biggest league win at Boro was 5-1 in November 1905. Their heaviest defeat on Teeside was 0-5 on the opening day of the 1929-30 season.

The last Liverpool player sent off in a league fixture between the sides was Dominic Matteo in February 1999 at Anfield.

Last hat-tricks in the fixture: (Boro) Fabrizio Ravanelli (on his debut) in August 1996 at the Riverside in a 3-3 draw. (Liverpool) Robbie Fowler (4) in December 1996 at Anfield, in a 5-1 victory.

The only Liverpool player to score a hat-trick for the club at Boro was Joe Hewitt in November 1905.

Bolo Zenden scored in this fixture two seasons ago for Boro in the home side's 2-0 win. He scored 15 goals in 88 games for the Teesiders in all competitions.

Zenden, Jose Reina and the currently injured Momo Sissoko all made their league debuts for the club on this ground last season.

Jamie Carragher made his Liverpool debut on this ground as a substitute in a League Cup tie almost 10 years ago.

Steve Finnan could play his 100th league game for the Reds today.

In the Premiership Liverpool have won 10 and lost five of the 22 meetings.

The goalless draw here last season was only the third in 64 League meetings at Boro. Two of those have come in the last three seasons.

Should Liverpool score twice today it will bring the number of goals Boro have conceded in Premiership history to 600.

Liverpool are looking to keep their first clean sheet in the league away from home since April when they won 1-0 at Blackburn.

Liverpool are looking to score their first goal away from home in the Premiership since the opening day of the season-and that was a Robbie Fowler penalty at Sheffield United.

Of the last 57 games in which Liverpool have scored the first goal they have won 54 and drawn 3.

Current Boro boss Gareth Southgate has scored in this fixture on two occasions-both in the calendar year 2002.

Middlesbrough have failed to score in six of their 13 games in all competitions this season.

Yakubu made his debut for Boro in this fixture last season.

Last season Boro played 26 Cup ties in reaching the final of the UEFA Cup, the semi-final of the FA Cup, and the Quarter-Finals of the Carling Cup.

This season, however, their only Cup-tie saw them beaten here 1-0 by League Two side Notts County.

Since losing to Blackburn in September Boro have won each of their last three games at home-against Everton, Newcastle and West Ham.

They have conceded seven goals in six home games this season in the league and four of those came at the hands of Portsmouth back in August.

All four of their league wins have come at home including a 2-1 success against Chelsea when they came from behind to win. They have also drawn at Arsenal and Bolton.

In all competitions they have scored more than once in only one of their last 11 games.

Yakubu had a penalty saved by Tim Howard of Everton here last month after having been successful from the spot earlier in the game.
