GOLF: PGA: McIlroy earns Walker Cup spot
/noticias.info/ Seventeen-year-old Rory McIlroy, whose victory in the European Amateur Championship in August earned him a place in next July's British Open at Carnoustie, has been included in a squad of 22 to prepare for the Walker Cup match at Royal County Down in his native Northern Ireland on September 8-9.
Scotland's Richie Ramsay, first British winner of the American amateur title for 95 years, joins Lloyd Saltman, Gary Wolstenholme, Rhys Davies and Nigel Edwards from the side narrowly beaten in Chicago last year.
Non-playing captain Colin Dalgleish said: "We are very conscious that young players improve so quickly that it is very possible, indeed likely, that one or two players in the team could come from outside this squad."
Retiring chairman of selectors Peter McEvoy added: "It is nice to see five Walker Cup players in the squad, together with six St Andrews Trophy players.
"If they can play well in the lead up to the match and are joined by some of the existing young talent which abounds, we should have another very strong 10-player team." notas_de_prensa_archivo
