GOLF: PGA: Warren feels pain of play-off defeat

/noticias.info/ Marc Warren is coming to terms with an unwelcome new sensation after Scotland were denied their first World Cup in a sudden-death play-off in Barbados.

Warren and Colin Montgomerie fired a closing 69 in the foursomes to match the 16-under-par target set by Germany's Bernhard Langer and Marcel Siem, who returned a stunning 66 but the Scots then bogeyed the first extra hole and it was the first time Warren had lost a play-off in his career.

"I know how the other guy feels now and it's not a nice feeling, especially in such a big event," said Warren, who was left to express his team's disappointment after Montgomerie made a swift exit to catch a private plane to California to compete in Tiger Woods' tournament this week.

"We had a great chance to win but unfortunately that didn't happen. It's a shame for Scottish golf but hopefully this will give it a boost anyway.

"I've really seen this week why Monty has won eight Order of Merit titles. From tee to green he is relentless, almost every shot is where he wants to put it and it looks absolutely effortless at times. I can't say enough about him. I've got a lot of work ahead of me to get to that level of golf, that's for sure.

"He told me at the end it was a great effort and we couldn't do much more. He is as disappointed as I am." notas_de_prensa_archivo
