GOLF: ASIAN TOUR: SINGAPORE EARN 17TH SPOT IN WORLD CUP

/noticias.info/ Singapore's Mardan Mamat and Lam Chih Bing closed in with a two-under-par 69 as they finished in 17th place at the World Golf Championship – Barbados World Cup on Sunday.

After a solid start, the Korean pair of Hur Suk-ho and Charlie Wi, the Maybank Malaysian Open winner, delivered a closing 75 and claimed 19th place at the Sandy Lanes Resort. With a 283 total, the Koreans were three strokes off the pace from the Singaporean pair.

Germany’s Bernhard Langer and Marcel Sim took the top prize after defeating Scottish duo of Colin Montgomerie and Marc Warren in the first play-off hole. The win was Germany’s second in the World Cup.

Asian Tour member Michael Wright of Australia finished tied eighth in the Cadbury Schweppes Australian PGA Championship after closing with a 67. Youngster Jarrod Lyle blasted his second straight 69 as he finished in tied 16th place. His 10-under-par 278 total was a stroke better than compatriot Brad Kennedy who fired a closing 67.

Terry Pilkadaris, last year’s Brunei Open winner, shot a 71 in tied 26 spot while Unho Park was in joint 50th position after a 70. Gavin Flint stumbled to a 74 and finished seven spots below Park while Gary Simpson carded a 76 in lone 64th place.

Nick O’Hern claimed the top spot after a play-off triumph over Peter Lonard as both players were tied after four rounds with a 22-under-par 266 total.

At the Alfred Dunhill Championship, Des Terblanche, a former Asian Tour regular, closed in with a poor 76 as he claimed joint 11th position after a 283 total. Simon Nash was placed tied 20th after a 71 while Pulai Springs Malaysian Masters winner Anton Haig fired a similar score and claimed tied 32nd spot. Hendrik Buhrmann ended his campaign with a 77 in tied 71st place.

Spain’s Alvaro Quiros emerged the winner after a 67 for a 275 total. notas_de_prensa_archivo
