CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Curtain falls for Scholl at Bayern

/noticias.info/ FC Bayern München midfielder Mehmet Scholl has announced he will leave the German champions next summer, bringing the curtain down on a glittering 15-year association.

'New generation'
The announcement was prompted by an interview with Bayern general manager Uli Hoeness, who revealed the current campaign would be Scholl's last at the club. The 36-year-old former German international, whose contract expires on 30 June and who is likely to retire, said: "It's time to go, there has to be a new generation at Bayern now."

Barcelona farewell
Scholl, who is recovering from a number of torn muscles in his thigh, has been promised a farewell match against FC Barcelona next summer and Hoeness suggested he would then be offered a job within the Munich club. The midfielder, who has made ten appearances for Bayern this season, began his career with Karslruher SC in 1989, but it was not until he moved to Munich for €2.5m three years later that it really took off.

Glorious career
He has since made 326 league appearances, scoring 86 goals, and with eight Bundesliga championships to his name is the most decorated German player ever in that respect. He has also won five German Cups with Bayern and collected winner's medals in the 1996 UEFA Cup and 2001 UEFA Champions League, in addition to playing a part in Germany's triumph at EURO '96™. In total he scored eight goals in 36 games for his country, although a succession of injuries denied him the opportunity to appear in a FIFA World Cup finals tournament. notas_de_prensa_archivo
