Tottenham 3 - 1 Dinamo Bucuresti

CHAMPIONS LEAGUE: Dynamic duo spur Tottenham on

/noticias.info/ Dimitar Berbatov and Jermain Defoe were in sublime form as Tottenham Hotspur FC overwhelmed FC Dinamo 1948 Bucuresti 3-1 at White Hart Lane to make it four wins out of four and secure top spot in UEFA Cup Group B.

Premiership power
With the six other English teams in UEFA club competition having reached the knockout stages after finishing first in their sections, the onus was on Tottenham to continue the 100 per cent record - and they did not disappoint. Berbatov capped a purposeful start with his fifth goal of the campaign on 16 minutes, capitalising on a woeful clearance by goalkeeper Uladzimir Hayeu, and from then on the result was never in doubt, Defoe effectively sealing victory with goals either side of half-time.

Early threat
It proved a busy night for Hayeu, who was called into action as early as the third minute to deny Tom Huddlestone. He was equally aware to cut out a dangerous Aaron Lennon cross soon after but the nervousness that marked the Romanian visitors' play in the opening exchanges eventually told as the keeper contrived to throw straight to Berbatov. The Tottenham man cushioned the ball brilliantly before rifling into the top corner. Hayeu went some way to making amends almost immediately, brilliantly tipping Defoe's powerful effort on to the crossbar as Tottenham pressed.

Defoe double
Berbatov fired an excellent chance over before Defoe finally doubled the lead with six minutes of the half remaining, collecting Paul Robinson's incisive clearance, skipping past Stefan Radu and tucking the ball under Hayeu. The England striker extended the advantage soon after the restart when Lennon's shot was parried into his path and Martin Jol's men had countless opportunities to add to their cushion, with Benoît Assou-Ekotto rattling a post. Instead, it was Jean Philippe Mendy who scored a late consolation for Dinamo, who will content themselves with a place in the last 32 as they ended Group B in second. notas_de_prensa_archivo
