PSV: Champions League: Koeman is looking forward to clashes with Arsenal
/noticias.info/ When asked for a first reaction to the draw, PSV head coach Ronald Koeman said that Champions League opponent Arsenal may 'not be the most formidable of opponents, but they will certainly present a tall task'.
"Arsenal are not the hardest team but not the weakest opponents, either. It's a bit of an in-between. I think they play the best football of all Premiership sides. Yet I think we will stand a fair chance. Arsenal were last season’s runners-up and are one of the clubs with the budget to win the tournament. We feel proud we have reached the next phase and will be given an opportunity to find our place in the European pecking order. We are looking forward to playing two great games."
Koeman met Arsenal before as coach in de Champions League, when he was at the helm at Ajax in the 2002-2003 season. "We met them in the group stage. We drew twice; on our travels we recorded a 1-1 draw, and at home we drew 0-0. That would be enough to progress to the next round", explained Koeman. PSV will first meet the club from London in Eindhoven. "We just can’t help it. We were second in our group, so we knew we would be drawn against a group winner. If we had the choice, we would rather play the return leg at home, as it is often the decisive game. But we are not in the position to choose."
Koeman thought the draw in general was very interesting. "There are some great fixtures, like Barcelona-Liverpool and Real Madrid -Bayern München. These are exciting games, now that we have reached the knockout rounds." notas_de_prensa_archivo
