PSV and Arsenal met seven times before
/noticias.info/ PSV met Arsenal seven times before: they played three friendlies and locked horns in the Champions League on four occasions. PSV last met Arsenal in the Philips Stadium two years ago, when the two sides settled for a 1-1 draw.
PSV cherish the memories of Arsenal’s latest trip to Eindhoven. PSV drew 1-1 with the team from London on 24 November 2004, because of which they qualified for the Champions League knockout stages for the first time in history. André Ooijer gave PSV the lead with a glancing header. They even progressed to the Champions League semi-finals in which they were cruelly eliminated by a late AC Milan goal in the second leg. PSV suffered a 1-0 defeat at Highbury in a group stage game.
PSV do not have fond memories of the encounter with Arsenal in the 2002-2003 campaign. They slipped to an all-time low, after they were thrashed 4-0 at home at the end of September 2002. They drew 0-0 in London. PSV beat Arsenal 1-0 in a pre-season warm-up friendly in 1997.
Arsenal are currently third in the Premiership behind leaders Manchester United and runners-up Chelsea. They field a host of famous players: Robin van Persie, Jens Lehmann, William Gallas, Cesc Fabregas, Frederik Ljungberg, Tomas Rosicky and of course their prolific finisher Thierry Henry. Arsenal play their home games at the Emirates Stadium, which is called Arsenal Stadium on UEFA Champions league match days. The stadium opened in July 2006, and has an all-seated capacity of 60,432, making it the second largest stadium in the Premiership after Old Trafford.
Manager Arsène Wenger is one of England’s longest serving managers. The Frenchman arrived at Highbury on 28 September 1996 and he has been with them ever since. Arsenal finished on top of their group and FC Porto, CSKA Moscow and HSV came second, third and fourth, respectively. notas_de_prensa_archivo
