PSV claimed fifteenth win in seventeen games
/noticias.info/ PSV did not dig deep to claim their fifteenth Eredivisie win in seventeen games this season, after they eased to a comfortable 3-0 victory Heracles. Timmy Simons converted from the spot after 25 minutes and Phillip Cocu and Patrick Kluivert scored goals after the break.
PSV may enjoy another great weekend. They did what was expected of them and have amassed 46 points. They have gone 10 points clear and will be interested to see AZ and Ajax are in action on Sunday. PSV had a great start to the 2006-2007 season. They have done even better than last season and have scored 46 goals and conceded only six goals so far. Ronald Koeman’s team has equaled a club record set in the 1977-1978 season. They have conceded only six goals in seventeen league games.
Just before the game was kicked off, the technical and medical staff decided not to play Jefferson Farfán, who is suffering from a hamstring strain. Jason Culina replaced him on the left flank and Edison Mendez took up the position on the right wing, so Arouna Koné was the only striker up front in Ronald Koeman’s starting line-up. Heracles opted for the defensive strategy as might have been expected and kept many players behind the ball. The efforts of the PSV forwards to dribble through a thicket of defenders were regularly thwarted. Michael Reiziger played in the heart of defence and Carlos Salcido was played left back.
After an uneventful start, PSV took the lead on 25 minutes. Culina delivered a superb pass for Koné, who was pushed down by Eddy Bosnar just inside the penalty box. The Heracles defender was given his marching orders and PSV had won a penalty. Simons hardly ever fails to convert from the spot and the Belgian comfortably scored his third goal of the campaign. Heracles had hardly ever moved men forward in the opening stages and after they had been reduced to ten men, the visitors realised this was not going to be their night.
So PSV had a fairly easy Friday evening; it was an ideal opportunity to bring on Patrick Kluivert as a substitute and grant him some playing time. So at half time Reiziger was taken off and Kluivert indeed came on to replace him. Within fifteen minutes PSV increased their advantage to three goals. On 51 minutes Jan Kromkamp first set up captain Phillip Cocu, who, left completely unmarked, scored his 50th league goal for PSV by heading home from a perfect cross and then he turned provider for Kluivert, who controlled his cross well before confidently unleashing a powerful left-footed shot that beat goalkeeper Piekenhagen. Kluivert had opened his scoring account for PSV to the great delight of the home crowd. PSV surged forward again, but did not score any more goals. notas_de_prensa_archivo
