INTER: MANCINI: "LONG WAY FROM MAKING HISTORY"

/noticias.info/ One of the most positive aspects of Inter's season is that you are playing with the same mentality both at home and away. Do you agree?
"We also played like this in my first year. Maybe our performances weren't that consistent last season. I think a great team always has to play with the same mentality, both at home and away. A great team must always play to win."

Some people say Inter are an almost perfect team at this moment. Is there anything you can improve?
"I only think you reach perfection after the last match and after the team has succeeded in achieving its biggest goal. A team can always improve before this. We have won a lot of matches and it seems like things are perfect, but I don't think it's like this. You can always try to do better, there are several things we can improve, and we are working to do this. We must also take advantage of the team's good period to try and improve. It's more difficult to put everything right when things aren't going well."

Inter have already equalled the records of some of your great predecessors. And you could better these records by winning tomorrow. What do you think about this?
"A long time is needed to equal those people. They made the history of Inter and we still have to pedal to achieve what they did. Records only count if you have reached your main objective at the end of the season."

Dejan Stankovic said jokingly the other day that Roberto Mancini has become more serious and less light-hearted...
"I still joke, but there are times when you have to be serious. In any case, I think it's always important to do things with cheerfulness because we are lucky to play football. There are other times when you're not as calm, but like I said before, the important thing is to enjoy yourself when you're playing football."

Your comments on the Champions League round of sixteen draw?
"Valencia are an excellent team and have to recover a few injured players who helped them reach first place in the Liga table and win all their matches up to that point in the Champions League. They only had problems after that because of this reason. It will be an evenly balanced clash because Valencia are not inferior to the other teams we could have faced. As far as the other pairings are concerned, the only easy match is perhaps the one between Manchester United and Lille. I said we shouldn't forget Villarreal? Yes, I said we should always keep that in mind because everyone celebrated when they came out of the hat last year. And everybody knows how things went after."

What did you think when Massimo Moratti said Roberto Mancini's contract renewal is something to be taken for granted, and that you haven't had time to sort everything out?
"The president was right because we have too many matches now and haven't had time to think about this. I have already said on other occasions that my contract is not an important issue. What counts is doing a good job. The other things come second."
