NHL: RANGERS DAILY PROSPECT UPDATE: DEC. 17, 2006

/noticias.info/ The Hartford Wolf Pack, the Rangers' American Hockey League affiliate, fell to the Manchester Monarchs 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in Manchester, N.H. The Pack's Brandon Dubinsky scored Hartford's goal on a power play at 2:54 of the opening period, givinge his team a 1-0 lead. Defenseman Thomas Pock and goaltender Stephen Valiquette picked up the assists on Dubinsky's sixth goal of the season. Manchester came back to tie the game just under three minutes later, when Patrick O'Sullivan converted a power play. O'Sullivan, who led all AHL rookies in goals last season later later got the game-winner on a power play with 41 seconds left in the third period. Valiquette, the game's No. 3 star, made 23 saves in defeat for the Wolf Pack, and Rangers forward Jed Ortmeyer played in his third AHL game since returning from the pulmonary embolism that had sidelined him for the past four months. Ryan Callahan led all players with seven shots on goal, but former Rangers netminder Jason LaBarbera shut him down, making 29 saves to earn No. 2 star honors behind O'Sullivan. The Charlotte Checkers, the Rangers' East Coast Hockey League affiliate, fell to the Gwinnett Gladiators 2-1 on Sunday afternoon in Duluth, Ga. Rangers prospect Zdenek Bahensky had the primary assist on the Checkers' lone goal, scored by Nathan Gillies just 41 seconds into the game. Gwinnett's Jon Awe tied the score on a power play midway through the first period and the got the winner on another power play at 0:54 of the second. Rangers goaltending prospect Chris Holt made 30 saves, including 15 in the second period. The Checkers are now 15-10-1 and in fourth place in the American Conference's South Division, just five points behind division-leading Texas.
