FOOTBALL EUROPE: Stanković honoured in Serbia
/noticias.info/ Dejan Stanković has been named as Serbia's inaugural Player of the Year since the split with Montenegro while the Football Association of Serbia (FSS) has also unveiled a new logo.
Serbian first
FC Internazionale Milano star and national team captain Stanković came top of a poll among the 82 members of the FSS. "This award means so much for me because I am the first Serbian Player of the Year," said the midfielder. "The national team has been strong, we have some very good players and I am really happy."
Coaching honour
Meanwhile, Ljubisa Tumbaković was named as the FSS's Coach of the Year after winning the Chinese league and cup double with FC Shandong Luneng Taishan. "I am glad because my countrymen did not forget me even that I work so far away," he said. "I am thrilled - I am not young and this is my first individual award."
Famous physio
A special lifetime achievement award was presented to 80-year-old former physiotherapist Milan Arandjelović who retired from football this year after playing his part in Serbia and Montenegro's FIFA World Cup campaign in Germany. The OFK Beograd man worked at five World Cups having first taken up a post with the national team in 1962. Meanwhile, the FSS unveiled a new logo to symbolise the transition from the old republic of Serbia to a new independent nation. The new badge will appear on the national team's shirts. notas_de_prensa_archivo
