FOOTBALL EUROPE: Short-staffed Inter make it ten
/noticias.info/ FC Internazionale Milano claimed a tenth consecutive Serie A win on Wednesday - one short of the record - but second-placed AS Roma kept up the chase with a 2-1 triumph at Torino FC.
Red card
Inter's 2-0 win at S.S. Lazio came courtesy of goals for Esteban Cambiasso and Marco Materazzi. Hernán Crespo set up fellow Argentinian Cambiasso for the opener after 39 minutes before Zlatan Ibrahimović's dismissal for a second bookable offence before the interval complicated matters for the champions.
Materazzi header
Inter withstood pressure from Lazio in the second half, with Brazilian goalkeeper Júlio César making a fine save to deny Massimo Oddo, before Materazzi headed home from a Luís Figo cross to seal victory. "We had the game in hand until Zlatan's dismissal and then unfortunately it got a bit tough for us after the break," said Inter coach Roberto Mancini.
Roma resolute
Roma remain seven points adrift of Inter despite missing an early penalty against ten-man Torino. A deflected Mancini shot opened the scoring for Roma and the Brazilian then doubled Roma's advantage with ten minutes to go. Alessandro Rosina's late goal for Torino was just a consolation.
Milan success
AC Milan won 3-0 at home against Calcio Catania, with Kaká scoring twice, while Atatlanta BC lost 2-1 at home against Udinese Calcio. ACF Fiorentina were 2-0 winners at Cagliari Calcio while AC Chievo Verona won by the odd goal in five at home against Reggina Calcio.
Other games
In the evening's other games, Empoli FC won 1-0 at home against AC Siena, FC Messina Peloro drew 1-1 at home against Parma FC, US Città di Palermo won 4-0 against rock-bottom Ascoli Calcio 1898 while Sampdoria UC were 4-1 winners against AS Livorno Calcio. notas_de_prensa_archivo
