GOLF: PGA TOUR: Q&A: Mallinger on the Chargers, consistency and the Claret Jug

/noticias.info/ Editor's note: John Mallinger finished tied for 13th place at the PGA TOUR Qualifying Tournament, making him one of 40 new Q-school graduates who will enter the PGA TOUR for the 2007 FedExCup season. Mallinger chatted with PGATOUR.com for this Q&A.

PGATOUR.com: Tell me three things not related to golf that you consider must-dos in this lifetime.
Mallinger: I would like to start a family, not anytime soon, but I am a big fan of kids. I would love to backpack in Europe again. I did it after college and it was one of the best experiences of my life. The last, I would like to be associated with the San Diego Chargers....Go Bolts!!

PGATOUR.com: What is your wildest golf dream?
Mallinger: Wildest dream would be winning the Masters with all my friends and family there.

PGATOUR.com: What aspect of the playing on the PGA TOUR will make you most nervous next year and why?
Mallinger: Hopefully I will not be too nervous out there. I have been out there a couple of times, so maybe the first time in the final group on Sunday.

PGATOUR.com: What was your welcome-to-professional-golf moment?
Mallinger: I would have to say the welcome to professional golf moment was the first time I qualified for the U.S. Open at Pinehurst. Definitely an eye-opener when I played a nine hole practice round with Retief Goosen.

PGATOUR.com: You’ve been granted a 60-minute sit-down with any figure in the world of golf, living or dead. What’s your first question -- and to whom would you address it?
Mallinger: I would sit down with Tiger and ask him about his preparation and discipline.

PGATOUR.com: Describe the menu, from soup to nuts, of your next title celebration dinner. And name the wine pairings.
Mallinger: Definitely would be having some sushi and I'm sure there would be some Silver Oak and Opus One in the room.

PGATOUR.com: Name five songs in your iPod.
Mallinger: Five songs on my Ipod are: Mr Brightside by the Killers, Soul Meets Body by Death Cab for Cutie, The kill by 30 seconds to mars, Chocolate by Snow Patrol, I wanna luv you by Akon and Snoop.

PGATOUR.com: Other than winning a tournament, what would make next year a success?
Mallinger: I want to be very consistent and in control of my game. I think that would be a success for me next year.

PGATOUR.com: Who would you most like to hit balls next to, and why?
Mallinger: I would probably hit balls next to Johnny Merrick so it's easy for our golf coach, Jaime Mulligan, to watch both of us. And he's pretty pure.

PGATOUR.com: You’ve got one more victory coming before you retire. What trophy do you want to hoist and why?
Mallinger: I would love to hoist the Claret Jug. Winning another countries major would be pretty special and then we can drink some pretty good beer out of it! notas_de_prensa_archivo
