CHELSEA FC: GEREMI - SIMPLY HAVING A WONDERFUL CHRISTMAS TIME
/noticias.info/ The heavy Christmas fixture list will prove no burden at all, according to Geremi, if the Chelsea team does as it did the past two years and keeps on winning.
Beginning with tomorrow's game at Wigan, the players face four games in 11 days, a little more relaxed than the four in eight days of last season.
In Jose Mourinho's first year in charge the four matches were spread over 10 days with every one ending in victory, a feat repeated last season.
'When you play and win you are happy, however many games you are playing,' explained Geremi, shortly before boarding a coach to the airport for the journey to the north-west.
'The worse thing is when you play matches and you lose. Here at Chelsea I have always been winning at this time so I have always been in a good mood.
'Christmas is going to be very, very important, especially because this year we are chasing Man United. To win this league, this is the tough period.'
In each of the past two title-winning seasons, Mourinho's men have succeeded in extending their lead over all the chasing sides.
'The difference is that we are chasing this time,' says Geremi.
'There is pressure every game because we don't want to lose some points, especially when Man U play before us.
'Last year it was easier. This year the pressure is there all the time, every game.
'For us last weekend was a great step,' he adds recalling the day Alex Ferguson's side failed to match Chelsea's dramatic win at Everton when they kicked off in the later game.
This Saturday it's Chelsea's turn to know our rivals' result at Aston Villa prior to our 5.15pm kick-off.
Geremi came on as a sub in last season's opening day win during Chelsea's first ever visit to the JJB Stadium.
He recalls that Wigan made it tough until Hernan Crespo's last gasp winner. No Crespo of course this year, but we do have Didier Drogba, approaching the halfway point in the season on 10 Premiership goals and 17 in all competitions.
'Didier is on fire,' agrees Geremi. 'That's why after the game I always shake the hand of Didier because he had been struggling when he first came.
'Chelsea buy him for a lot of money because the manager knew what he can do and now he has really adapted the English league. Now he just does what he knows, keeping scoring and he is very, very strong.
'It is not a surprise for me because I know him and he is a really great player with strong eyes.
'But it is not only about Didier, it is about the team and the bench. That is important.' notas_de_prensa_archivo
