EVERTON FC: MOYES POST MATCH
/noticias.info/ David Moyes insisted that Andy Johnson thoroughly deserved to end his goal drought at Reading.
The Blues striker found the net with a fine first-half strike at the Madejski Stadium to record his first goal since September and his manager was delighted for him.
“Yes, I was and we were all singing that song when he got his goal!” grinned Moyes.
“We’ve all been hoping that he’d get his goal and nobody deserves it more because he keeps getting in there.”
As well as scoring the opener, AJ also provided James McFadden with the second Everton goal in the 48th minute and Moyes was pleased with his all-round contribution.
He also insisted that AJ had been totally focussed on his game and had most definitely not allowed his own personal barren spell to affect him.
“I’ve not seen any signs of it,” said the boss.
“His performances have been good, his work-rate has never been in question and he could have taken a couple of penalty-kicks that we’ve been given during the period.
“He’s kept going and I thought he played very well today.”
After the second goal, Reading enjoyed their best spell of the match and they put the Everton rearguard under a lot of pressure.
But Tim Howard and his defenders held firm to record a well-deserved clean-sheet.
“I thought the defenders were outstanding and the goalkeeper too and I have to give Reading credit because they always make things difficult for any team that comes here,” Moyes declared.
“Very few teams come here and get results but we deserve it because we’ve been away on occasions this season, the likes of Charlton and Fulham, when we’ve played well but not won the games.
“But today we got the goals and had to withstand some pressure from Reading at times.” notas_de_prensa_archivo
