EVERTON FC: NAYSMITH EYES PERFECT 12
/noticias.info/ Gary Naysmith is targeting a perfect 12 point haul from Everton’s Christmas games.
Naysmith declared his aim after stepping into the Toffees side that defeated Reading as an eleventh hour replacement for knee injury victim Alan Stubbs.
The Scot now believes the Blues’ upcoming fixtures against Middlesbrough, Newcastle and Manchester City are winnable ones.
He told evertonTV: "Over Christmas we are looking to get maximum points. Counting this game we are looking to get the maximum 12 and this was a great start for us.
"If we can get the majority of the points then that will push us up to sixth or seventh place. Then come February and March we can push on for the European places. "
Naysmith admitted that being thrust into the starting XI at the last minute was a surprise – but he explained that was a good thing!
He recalled: "Five or ten minutes before the game when we went into the changing room the reserve team manager Andy Holden said to me, ‘you’d better be ready, Stubbsy is struggling with his knee’.
"I didn’t know anything about it as I went into the dressing room, and the gaffer said ‘right Gaz, you’re playing’."
"I have been out for so long; it’s been 12, 13 weeks since I hurt my knee up at Newcastle so I think it maybe helped me, getting thrown in at the deep end. I didn’t have time to think about it being my first game back so from that point of view it probably helped."
