EVERTON FC: NEV: I WISH I WAS PLAYING
/noticias.info/ Phil Neville has spoken of his bitter disappointment at having to miss one of Everton's festive fixtures through suspension - further stretching the Blues' squad at a tough time of the season.
The England international picked up his fifth booking of the season in the 3-2 defeat to Chelsea, ruling him out of the Boxing Day match at home against Middlesbrough.
Having only returned from injury to face Chelsea he was able to play one more game against Reading before having to sit out Tuesday's match. It has proved frustrating for Neville.
He told evertonTV: "I thought I would be missing the Reading game, but the rules stipulate that with five bookings it's seven days later, which means I miss the Middlesbrough game.
"gutted really because it means I have missed a couple of games through injury lately and I hate missing football games and particularly at a time like Christmas, where, coming back from injury, you can get a bit of match sharpness under your belt in two or three days.
"I am disappointed but we have got competition for places and we have just got to get on with it. The squad has been stretched over the last couple of weeks and we have handled it okay so we have just got to get on with it because injuries, suspensions, they happen in football.
"We haven't got the biggest squad but we have got players coming back to fitness now so we wil need everyone fit for the Christmas period."
