SAN FRANCISCO POLICE: Community Police Academy Graduation June 5

/noticias.info/ There will be a Community Police Academy (formerly Citizens’ Police Academy) graduation on Tuesday, June 5, in the auditorium of the Police Academy, 350 Amber Drive, at

8:00 P.M. There will be 32 students graduating.


The Community Police Academy was a concept first developed in England in 1977 and replicated in the United States in Orlando, Florida in 1985. The concept has since spread to many police jurisdictions. San Francisco held its first Community Police Academy in 1994. Since then, there have been 390 graduates, including those in this graduating class.


The role of the Community Police Academy is to teach community members about the many facets of the SFPD, while enhancing positive relations between the police and the community through education. It is thus an important component of community policing.


In addition to extensive classroom instruction on many police-related topics, students go on a ride-along, get tours of police facilities and participate in a firearm simulator exercise.
