EVERTON FC: BAINES: WE MUST WIN
/noticias.info/ Everton’s clash with Manchester City on Saturday is a must win game if the Blues are to maintain their league position this season.
That is the view of Leighton Baines, who has recently returned from injury after straining his hamstring in December.
Sven-Goran Eriksson’s side are only three points ahead of Everton in the league and Baines feels it is important to get a win over their rivals.
He told evertonTV: “The games come thick and fast this time of year. They’re around us so if we want to stay up where we are we have got to beat these teams.
“We were on a good run but the results have slipped away a little bit recently. There has been some tough games but we need to get back to winning ways as soon as possible and we’ll look to do that this weekend.”
City spent heavily in the summer, bringing in the likes of Elano and Martin Petrov, and Baines has been impressed with their form.
He added: “Manchester City have been performing really well. They’ve got some great individuals and some of the new lads that have come in have been brilliant for them so it will be a tough game.”
The ex-Wigan man has endured a frustrating time with injuries this season and he believes that the fight that he faces to get back in the starting line-up is a testament to the squad David Moyes has built.
Baines said: “There are good players here, not only at left back but throughout the squad which is important.
“It keeps people on their toes so it’s not going to be easy to get a place in the team - we all know that. It’s up to me to work hard when I’m not in the team and try and get back in.
“It’s been difficult to get going this season. I got a few games under my belt and was pleased with how things were going but then I got injured at Derby.
“I was out for a few weeks – I eventually got back and then got injured again. Worse things happen so I’ve got to get on with it.”
