PSV: Sef Vergoossen has got his own game plan

/noticias.info/ PSV head coach Sef Vergoossen repeated at the weekly media briefing at De Herdgang training centre on Friday afternoon that he takes each game as it comes. “The next game is always the most important one, so we first focus exclusively on Sunday’s clash against FC Utrecht”, told Vergoossen media representatives after he had taken charge of Friday morning’s behind-closed-doors training session.

“I don’t look too far ahead”, said Vergoossen. “We will need to look at the squad we have, ahead of the three games we now have next week, and take each game as it comes.” Vergoossen obviously watched Tottenham Hotspur when they took on Chelsea in the League Cup final. PSV assistant coach Dwight Lodeweges will attend the Premiership fixture Birmingham v Tottenham on Saturday and some scouting staff members saw the Spurs in action before. Vergoossen said: “I thought Tottenham fully deserved victory against Chelsea in a high quality game.” Vergoossen was impressed by the commanding display that Tottenham’s Didier Zokora had put in against Chelsea. When Vergoossen took charge as head coach at Racing Genk, the Ivory Coast midfielder played a crucial role in the Belgian First Division side’s title triumph in 1999.

Vergoossen refused to comment on the statements that John van Loen was alleged to have made. The FC Utrecht assistant coach had told the press that ‘it takes two to tango’ when previewing Sunday’s game. “The crowd may be treated to an entertaining game with plenty of attacking football if PSV are willing to co-operate.” Vergoossen was not impressed. “We have our own game plan. Utrecht are a good side. They have earned many points at home as well as on their travels. This is another important game for us, as we are keen to maintain our nine-point lead at the top of the Eredivisie”, said Vergoossen, who is shortly going to have talks with some young talented players, Achenteh, Ojo and Wuytens, whom he gradually wants to involve in the first team training sessions. “They will not be able to meet the high expectations overnight; we’ll just wait and see how they develop as players.”

Defender Eric Addo, who is trying to shake off a hamstring problem, trained separately on Friday morning, supervised by fitness coach Luc van Agt. Tommie van der Leegte joined the squad for full training, but Vergoossen was not confident that the player would be fit enough to feature. notas_de_prensa_archivo
