ARSENAL: White - We must show defeat was one-off

Faye White thinks that Thursday’s League Cup Final defeat could be a blessing in disguise.

Everton’s 1-0 victory over Arsenal Ladies ended a run of 58 successive domestic wins for the Gunners. Speaking after the game, the Club captain was more defiant than she was despondent.

“It’s been a long time since we lost and in truth Everton have been getting closer to us recently,” said White. “The game needs to be more competitive if it is to move forward.

“Obviously as it does though, we must work hard to stay where we want which is at the top of the tree.

“You never want to lose in a Final so we need to look forward from here. We are in a good position in the League and have the FA Cup to play for where we could meet this lot again.

“There we can show them this is a one-off - we don’t want them taking that off us too.”

Reflecting on the game itself, White was complimentary about the victorious Toffees.

“Today they had a good gameplan and got the early goal that they wanted,” she said. “We had a majority of possession and the chances too, but we didn’t take them and have lost because of it.

“When they got their goal they sat in, worked hard and were strong on the seconds. We didn’t push on enough at the end but they made it tough for us by not offering space in front of them.

“We need to stick together as a team, sort out what went wrong and put the problems behind us. Maybe you should just think they had a better game than us today.” notas_de_prensa_archivo
