LIVERPOOL FC: KUYT: HOT-SHOT TORRES CAN BANISH BOLTON

Dirk Kuyt believes Fernando Torres' hot-streak in front of goal can help bring an end to Liverpool's recent run of Reebok misery.

/noticias.info/ The Reds have not won at Bolton in three attempts under boss Rafael Benitez, but with victories over Inter Milan and Middlesbrough in the bag and El Nino firing on all-cylinders, the Dutchman feels Liverpool can banish that hoodoo and further enhance their hopes of securing that fourth Champions League spot.

"It was very important to get the win against Middlesbrough because we still want to do something in the league and we definitely want to play in the Champions League next season," said Kuyt.

"We did our job and got the three points and now we have to get as many points as we can from the league games we have coming up.

"We didn't make a good start in that game but having beaten Inter Milan a few days before we had the confidence to go and turn it around.

"Fernando got us back into it and from then on we went on to control things, even though we had a bit of a scare late on.

"I was happy with the two wins we had against Inter Milan and Middlesbrough and now we have to look to get another one on Sunday against Bolton.

"We are in the middle of a run of four league games before we play Inter again and we have to try and do everything we can to make the most of those games and get ourselves into fourth position.

"Hopefully, we will get three more wins because that is exactly what we need.

"We showed against Inter that we can beat anyone but we have to be focused on this game."

Kuyt admits he has been seriously impressed by the way Torres has taken to life in England and has a growing belief that he is playing alongside one of the most exciting striking talents in Europe.

"He is unbelievable, a really good player,” said Kuyt.

"I have never seen someone who is that quick with the ball. I don't think anyone is as quick as Fernando is with the ball at his feet.

"He showed it again against Middlesbrough and if you have a player like that in your team you have to be really happy.

"He is definitely going to get better as well because he is still very young and he has only been playing football in this country for just over six months.

"No disrespect to Atletico Madrid but I think Liverpool is the real thing, a really big club, one of the biggest in Europe and with the kind of players he has behind him here – the likes of Steven Gerrard, Javier Mascherano, Xabi Alonso – he is only going to improve.

"It is great for everyone in the team to have a player like Fernando up front because he is unbelievable.

"I think he played really well against Inter in the week but he was even better against 'Boro.

"The hat-trick he scored against them was his second of the season already so that is really good for him and for us."

With Everton, Manchester City and Aston Villa all pushing Liverpool hard for that much-coveted fourth spot, the Reds can ill-afford any slip-ups against Bolton.

It is a situation that could intimidate some players - but not Kuyt, who feels Rafael Benitez's side can rise to the challenge and put together the type of winning run that will help them break free of the chasing pack.

"We know what pressure is and we know how important it is to have to win every game you play," he said.

"If we keep on winning then the other teams have to keep on winning also if they are going to compete with us for a top four place.

"But let's see what happens because there is still quite a long way to go and a lot of games to be played before anyone knows where they will finish in the league.

"The important thing is just to win our own games because if we do that there is nothing anyone else will do about it and we will be in the top four." notas_de_prensa_archivo
