EVERTON FC: LEAGUE CUP IS ONLY THE START
/noticias.info/ Everton Ladies manager Mo Marley says the League Cup triumph is only the start of things to come for the Blues.
The Toffees produced an unexpected win against Arsenal in the final courtesy of Amy Kane’s seventh minute strike on Thursday evening.
Speaking to evertonfc.com straight after the final whistle, Marley hailed the performance of her side.
“We knew it was going to be a hard game,” she explained.
“Arsenal are a top, top team and you know that you’re going to have to play out of your skin to even compete with them.
“I’ve always said that if our players have got the belief on the pitch then I think that we can be unbeatable full stop. But our players have lacked that kind of belief over the years.
“I believe that we went into this game believing that we could win it and that is 90% of it. We’ve got the ability, but it’s all about the belief.
“This is not the end, it’s the start of big things for this Club. It’s about time that we started winning trophies.”
With the League Cup now sitting proudly in the trophy cabinet, Marley has her sights on the FA Women’s Cup.
She continued: “You have to set your standards high. The players have got to raise it now, you don’t put all the work that you do for a one off competition.
“We’ve got a big game against Cardiff away on the weekend, we have the semi-final of the FA Cup and I’m sure that the focus will now be that we continue to be successful in the league and then following on from that we can get into the FA Cup final.”
