EVERTON FC: LESCOTT THE LUCKY MASCOT
/noticias.info/ Joleon Lescott is relishing his status as Everton's lucky goalscoring mascot.
The England international has netted eight times for the Blues this term - and David Moyes' men have never suffered defeat when Lescott has found the target this season.
Indeed, Everton have won seven and drawn one of the games in which Lescott has netted.
He is delighted with his goal return and the fact each of his goals has proved crucial for Everton in the pursuit of a fourth place finish and success in the Uefa Cup.
He told evertonTV exclusively: "All my goals have been quite important and we haven't lost when I've scored. It's always good to get on the scoresheet because it feels like I am doing something good and the team is going to win.
"It is always important to get goals. Ten would be great but at the beginning of the season I would have been happy with three or four."
Indeed, Lescott had a bet with teammate Tim Howard that he wouldn't net five goals this season. Having won that particular punt, Lescott is now closing in on the 10 goal target set by his manager.
But getting on the scoresheet again is not his priority.
He explains: "I am not thinking about it going into games. It is more important to keep clean sheets. The defence is playing well, and that includes Cars just in front and Tim Howard in goal."
But that is not to say Lescott is not overjoyed when he does hit the goal trail. He has a number of highlights this season. But his favourite goal of the year came early in the campaign - and was only his second goal of the season.
He recalls: "The Bolton goal was a bit emotional. I got a bit of a caning at half time and so then to come out and get the last minute winner was amazing."
But even if Lescott's goals dry up between now and the end of the season, Lescott knows the Blues will continue to find the target regularly.
He adds: "We know we can score goals. Yak is on fire at the moment and it's important we all chip in.
"Before Christmas we were looking to be in contention come March and now we are there we aren't embarrassed to talk about finishing in fourth and if we can do that it is a massive achievement.
"I don't think we are overachieving. None of the boys are getting carried away with the situation. We have to work hard to stay there and the teams around us have real quality - everyone knows that."
