LIVERPOOL FC: BOSS BACKS GERRARD TO REALISE TITLE DREAM
Rafa Benitez is confident skipper Steven Gerrard will realise his Premier League ambitions at Anfield.
/noticias.info/ Gerrard revealed his frustration earlier this week at Liverpool's continued struggle to mount a serious title challenge, with the club currently standing 17 points adrift of league leaders Arsenal.
It's a pain Benitez admits he shares, though the Spaniard is positive he'll one day witness his on-the-field general lifting the Premier League trophy right here in Merseyside.
"I think Steven can realise his ambitions here, I am sure," said the Liverpool manager. "We are progressing, going in the right direction.
"He is very happy here. His commitment is 100 per cent. You could see this week in every training session he is committed. I think he will be here for a long time. I talk with him about ideas for the future. Steven knows some ideas that we have (about new players). I can't explain every movement, but our scouts are working hard around the world.
"He wants to win the title, as do all the fans and everyone at the club. We share the same ambition.
"We won the Champions League once and then got to another final. That was very, very positive. And that's the reason why everyone is talking about us winning the Premier League.
"The question now is how we can improve in the league, and the only way to do that right now is to win games in a row.
"In the future we can think about how we can improve in the league overall."
Gerrard comments included a claim that even another Champions League triumph would not totally erase his Premier League disappointment.
Benitez added: "Stevie said that to win the Champions League is massive and was the best memory he has had in football. He thinks it would be a fantastic season if we win the Champions League.
"The commitment of all the players is really good. How can we progress now? By trying to win every game to be in the top four and to progress in the Champions League.
"I think Stevie is happy to be here. He said in the interview that the squad, the fans, the stadium, the manager and the club are all going in the right direction. He knows we are doing a lot of good things, but we know we need to improve in the Premier League.
"In the other competitions we have progressed, but sometimes in football you make mistakes.
"He wants to win trophies, that's the key. If we can win the Champions League, he will be one of the happiest people in the world. I don't have any doubt about that." notas_de_prensa_archivo
