EVERTON FC: LADIES' LEAGUE AGENDA
/noticias.info/ Everton Ladies return to Premier League action this weekend just days after their League Cup triumph over Arsenal.
A trip to struggling Cardiff City on Sunday is next on the agenda for Mo Marley’s side.
The 1-0 victory against the Gunners produced one of the biggest shocks in the women’s game but the Blues boss is now expecting her players to step it up in the league.
She told evertonfc.com: “You have to set your standards high. The players have got to raise it now.
“You don’t put all the work that you do for a one off competition. We’ve got a big game against Cardiff away on the weekend and that is now our focus.
“We want to be successful in the league.”
The team spirit in the squad was clear to see during the final with some resolute defending to end Arsenal’s 58 game domestic unbeaten run and Marley had some special words for her group of players.
“You wouldn’t believe the bond that we’ve got as a group of players,” she explained.
“When you’re up against it, playing against some of the best players in the world, you need that togetherness and resilience and we showed that.”
Meanwhile six Everton players have been named in the England squad for the forthcoming Euro 2009 qualifier with Northern Ireland.
Rachel Unitt, Lindsay Johnson, Emily Westwood, Fara Williams, Jill Scott and Jody Handley are in the 19-strong party.
Hope Powell’s side travel to Lurgan on Thursday March 6, kick-off 7.30pm. notas_de_prensa_archivo
