FOOTBALL EUROPE: Captain Defour settled at Standard

/noticias.info/ Eerste Klasse leaders R. Standard de Liège have agreed a two-year contract extension with captain Steven Defour, keeping the 19-year-old midfielder at the club until 2013.

Rapid rise
Defour, whose previous deal ran until 2011 although his new contract also offers improved terms, moved to Standard from KRC Genk in 2006 and quickly became club captain, going on to earn a regular role in Belgium's senior international team – he has now won 12 caps – and being voted his country's Player of the Year for 2007 in January. "This contract shows Standard's determination to guarantee the stability of the team as long as possible, and of course, the promise from Steven to give 100 per cent to the cause," the Belgian club said in a statement. notas_de_prensa_archivo
