2010 FIFA WORLD CUP: Brady cleared to join Ireland staff
/noticias.info/ Former international Liam Brady has confirmed he will join Giovanni Trapattoni on the backroom staff of the Republic of Ireland.
Coaching lineup
Trapattoni begins work as Ireland manager on 1 May but is already assembling his coaching team. Having hired former FC Internazionale Milano coach Marco Tardelli as his assistant, the Italian is happy that Brady, who played under Trapattoni at Juventus in the 1980s, is in a position to work for the national side in a role yet to be defined.
Italian experience
There were some stumbling blocks as Brady works full-time as head of the youth academy at Arsenal FC and is also a television analyst for Irish broadcaster RTE. However, the 52-year-old, a fluent Italian speaker from his seven years playing in Italy, is now ready to link up with the Football Association of Ireland – with the blessing of Arsène Wenger.
'Quite happy'
"I've spoken to the people at Arsenal, the board of directors and Arsène Wenger, and they are quite happy for me to do it and keep my job at Arsenal," said Brady, capped 72 times by his country. "I've been to see Trapattoni and had a good meeting with him. I want to do it, assist him." Brady also said he will contact players who have retired from international football in recent years. "We'll be approaching a few of them, the likes of Andy O'Brien and Steve Finnan. Hopefully they will make themselves available again because we need them." Trapattoni has his first test as Ireland boss against Serbia in Dublin on 24 May, with another game against Colombia in London five days later. notas_de_prensa_archivo
