LIVERPOOL FC: KEEGAN: ANFIELD IS ALWAYS SPECIAL
Kevin Keegan admits he is looking forward to returning to Anfield but is hoping that his Newcastle side can rise to the occasion and ease their relegation fears.
/noticias.info/ The former Kop hero has guided the Toon army to victory at Anfield before when Newcastle beat Liverpool 2-0 back in April 1994, and Keegan would love nothing more than getting his first win in his second spell in the Newcastle hot seat at his former club.
"Of course it's always special to go back, especially when we get a win like I have done on a couple of occasions," said Keegan.
"It would be nice to do the same again but we know that's not going to be easy. But if you go to Anfield expecting to get nothing that is exactly what you will get.
"That's why we will roll up there tomorrow expecting to come home with something and we are going to have a go and make sure we give them a good game. And don't forget we are going there after we all thought was a very encouraging performance if not result against Blackburn Rovers last Saturday.
"Yes Liverpool has a strong squad but when haven't they?"
Keegan was also manager when Newcastle famously lost 4-3 back in 1996 and it is a match that he remembers well.
"Obviously it was disappointing to lose that match," he added. "But it was more disappointing if we had played badly and lost. If I am honest in those days when we went to the likes of Liverpool we expected to go there and win.
"We are still capable of winning tomorrow but really you cannot compare the state of the two clubs at the moment and we are going there in rather different circumstances to 1993 or 1994."
Another player who is returning to a ground where he was once adored by the Kop is Michael Owen. The former Reds number 10 will captain Newcastle at Anfield and Keegan is backing him to get back amongst the goals sooner rather than later.
"I don't think Michael will need an extra incentive," he said. "He's been outstanding in training and matches since I've been here - his work-rate has been terrific.
"When we weren't creating anything he was scoring goals despite that, and against Blackburn last Saturday, when we created chances but he didn't score, he came into the dressing room and apologised.
"He will be up for it. I know what it's like going back to play there. It's a wonderful experience going back to a former club, made even more wonderful when you get something." notas_de_prensa_archivo
