F91 Dudelange have become the first team to be crowned as domestic champions in Europe in 2008 after claiming their fourth successive title in Luxembourg with six matches to spare.

Consistency
Gaël Hug and Joris Di Gregorio were both on target on Sunday as Dudelange captured a decisive 2-0 victory at CS Grevenmacher – their 19th triumph in 20 outings this season – to build up an unassailable 19-point lead at the summit. "I really take a lot of positives from this championship," said their delighted captain Sébastien Remy. "Never before has the team played at such a high level so consistently. And not once did we really hit a low point."

Will to win
That their one, minor low point was a 1-0 defeat at FC Avenir Beggen speaks volumes. The title-holders had won all 16 Division Nationale matches before the 24 February reverse, and boasted an overall streak of 23 league wins stretching back to last season. According to coach Michel Leflochmoan, it is this will to win that sets them apart. "The players' performance was just right throughout," he said. "You can see that from the fact we have already won the title. My team always had the will to win every game - and we lost just once."

Status quo
Next on the agenda for Leflochmoan is the Luxembourg Cup. Winners for the last two seasons, Dudelange are through to the last 16 as they seek a unique hat-trick of doubles. US Sandweiler await this Sunday, and president Théo Fellerich is hoping to continue riding the crest of a wave. "The team's motivation really impressed me," he said. "Nothing will change next season in the club's politics. We want to be stay just as successful in the future."
